If after this set time the motor does not attend the set speed, the relay is de-energized and the switch resets automatically when the desired speed is attained. SMARTsaa developed Time Gap based Zero Speed Switch for heavy equipment’s running at very low RPM. Conventional Zero Speed Switches are RPM based and fail to respond fast and actuate tripping even though equipment speed is reduced.

ESM T precisely measures time gap between two pulses and when time gap between two pulses exceeds set time, O/P relay is actuated. By using this contact overload, under speed and zero speed tripping is precisely achieved. 

WORKING PRINCIPLE:

Speed sensor is placed in close proximity of the rotating object. On this object, metallic plates are fixed. Sensor detects presence of metal objects which come within the range of their oscillating field giving rise to corresponding pulses. The speed sensor is placed The Low Speed Response Zero Speed Switch; ESM T precisely measures time gap between two consecutive pulses. Due to reduction in RPM the time gap increases and is detected by ESM T and O/P relay is actuated.

Provided with in built initial by-pass timer to bypass the switch while starting the equipment. This delay is provided to allow the rotating machinery to attend the desired speed. If after this set time the pulse rate does not attend the set time, the relay is de-energized. If the pulse rate crosses above the set value, the O/P relay remains energized. The relay de energies when the time gap between two pulses exceeds set value.

The zero speed circuit is designed considering fail safe operation. In any fault condition like sensor fail, no power to the switch, cable fault, zero speed the relay reenergizes tripping the equipment.

Hook is welded to every guard section and rope is passed through the hook. When operator want to remove the guard for maintenance, he has to remove the ball and untie the rope from the hook. When rope is removed from the switch, the switch operates and conveyor / Machine is tripped.

The rope passes through hook welded to the guard which is placed around the machine. When guard is removed the switch is operated. Potential free contacts are interlocked in the control circuit such that when switch is operated, the equipment trips. SMARTsaa has developed Touch Switch for detection of Belt Misalignment.

The Touch Switch is an electromechanical limit switch. When a belt misaligns or a pulley moves over and presses the sensor face, the built in solid-state switch detects the displacement and actuates solid state switch. The signal is further processed in electronic control unit and relay is actuated and conveyor / machine can be stopped.

Ideally Touch Switch is to be used in pairs and to be mounted on both sides of conveyor belt. When belt dislocates, either of the switch gets activated. The controller is equipped with latching circuit; the output relay gets latched when any one of the switch is actuated.

The face of the sensor is made from hardened stainless steel, so that there is virtually no wear when a belt contacts it. The sensor is not affected by dust or material build up and will still work when completely covered by material. Sensors are normally installed in pairs on opposite sides of the machine. Usually a pair of sensors at each pulley is used, but additional pairs can be installed as required.

In case, controller is not required, the signal can be processed and latched in PLC for further interlocking.

Generally two types of damages are observed:

1.     Damages Occurred Due To Usage:

Damage of belt due to excessive usages, heavy loads, wearing and tearing of belt edges, poor vulcanizing of joints, peeling of steel cord, peeling of rubber portion of the belt etc.

2.     Damage due to unhealthy working condition:

Cutting of belt due to locking of sharp object at discharge chute.

As the belt is moving, the sharp metal piece cuts the belt longitudinally. 

To protect conveyor belt against above damage, SMARTsaa recommend two types of protective devices.

BELT TEAR SWITCH - DAMAGED BELT DETECTOR: ROPE TYPE: DBD R

This detector will protect belt against damage happened due to usages. It consists of pair of switches. The steel cord rope which are to be installed below the belt in a gap of approximately 500 Meters. The rope, one end of which is fixed with the end clamp, other end is provided with steel ball. The rope is fixed below the belt by keeping gap approx. 50 mm. The ball is held in catch. The switch lever gets pressed when the ball is fixed in catch.

When belt gets damaged sue to excessive use, its cord starts coming out, the rubber starts peeling off. The rubber or steel cord will stars peeling off and hits the rope. The ball comes off the catch and switch gets operated. The contacts are interlocked in circuit and the operator gets early warning.

One additional pair of DBD R can also be installed just after the return idler on return path to detect the belt damage of top belt surface.

BELT TEAR SWITCH - DAMAGED BELT DETECTOR - INFRARED TYPE: DBD I

This detector is designed to detect belt damage due to unhealthy condition. When belt gets cut longitudinally, the carried material like coal or iron ore starts falling through the belt cut. The DBD I consist of infrared light curtain Detector and Controller. The sensors forms invisible curtain of invisible light. The curtain is installed below the carrying side of belt. The location is generally after 20-30 Meters just after the discharge chute. The curtain gets disturbed due to falling of material through the cut slot of belt. The signal is triggered when piece of carried material passes through light curtain.

BELT- SWAY SWITCH 

This switch allows smooth running of the conveyer and protects it from damages by over swaying which can occur due to uneven loading of material, worn out idler roller bearings etc. The belt sway is generally mounted on both sides and near the edge of conveyer belt. A small gap is provided between contact roller and the belt edge to allow normal running of the belt with acceptable tolerance. When swaying exceeds normal limit, the belt edge pushes the contact roller, which drives the switch and operates the contacts.

Generally two types of damages are observed:

1.      Damages Occurred Due To Usage:

Damage of belt due to excessive usages, heavy loads, wearing and tearing of belt edges, poor vulcanizing of joints, peeling of steel cord, peeling of rubber portion of the belt etc.

This detector will protect belt against damage happened due to usages. It consists of pair of switches. The steel cord rope which are to be installed below the belt in a gap of approximately 500 Meters. The rope, one end of which is fixed with the end clamp, other end is provided with steel ball. The rope is fixed below the belt by keeping gap approx. 50 mm. The ball is held in catch. The switch lever gets pressed when the ball is fixed in catch.

When belt gets damaged sue to excessive use, its cord starts coming out, the rubber starts peeling off. The rubber or steel cord will stars peeling off and hits the rope. The ball comes off the catch and switch gets operated. The contacts are interlocked in circuit and the operator gets early warning.

One additional pair of DBD R can also be installed just after the return idler on return path to detect the belt damage of top belt surface.

DAMAGED BELT DETECTOR: INFRARED TYPE: DBD I

This detector is designed to detect belt damage due to unhealthy condition. When belt gets cut longitudinally, the carried material like coal or iron ore starts falling through the belt cut.

The DBD R consist of infrared light curtain detector and controller. The sensors forms invisible curtain of invisible light. The curtain is installed below the carrying side of belt. The location is generally after 20-30 Meters just after the discharge chute. The curtain gets disturbed due to falling of material through the cut slot of belt. The signal is triggered when piece of carried material passes through light curtain.

SMARTsaa has developed Damaged Belt Detector for early detection of Belt Damage of conveyors used in bulk material handling.

Generally two types of damages are observed:

1.      Damages Occurred Due To Usage:

Damage of belt due to excessive usages, heavy loads, wearing and tearing of belt edges, poor vulcanizing of joints, peeling of steel cord, peeling of rubber portion of the belt etc.

2.      Damage due to unhealthy working condition:

Cutting of belt due to locking of sharp object at discharge chute. As the belt is moving, the sharp metal piece cuts the belt longitudinally.

The switch is designed with spring / Auto reset type of mechanism. Belt Sway switch is mounted on the both side of the conveyor belt preferably at about every 30 meters of the length.

Additionally small gap of approx. 200 mm is to be kept between belt edge and roller for normal allowable swaying of belt. When conveyor belt sways beyond limit, the roller is pushed by the belt edge and the switch is operated. Speed sensor is placed in close proximity of the rotating object. On this object, metallic plates are fixed. Sensor detects presence of metal objects which come within the range of their oscillating field giving rise to corresponding pulses. These pulses are fed to the control unit where they are compared with the standard pulses to sense the speed. Output is in the form of relay contact.

In case of under speed – zero speed application built-in initial by-pass time delay is provided to allow the rotating machinery to attend the desired speed. If after this set time the motor does not attend the set speed, the relay is de-energized and the switch resets automatically when the desired speed is attained.
